How often should I get my car detailed?

When it comes to keeping your car looking its best, the question of how often to get it detailed is one that often arises. Let's face it, life happens, and with every journey we take, our trusty vehicles bear the brunt of it all. So, how frequently should you roll up to the detailing shop or break out the cleaning supplies in your own garage?

Well, there's no one-size-fits-all answer to this question. It largely depends on your lifestyle and how you utilize your car. If you're constantly shuttling yourself around solo, chances are your vehicle might not accumulate as much mess as someone who's wrangling a pack of small humans or ferrying around a furry friend on the regular. And let's not forget those of us who reside on dirt or gravel roads, where the dust and debris seem to have a magnetic attraction to our vehicles.

Ah, yes, Nebraska winters. They're not exactly kind to our beloved vehicles, are they? The salt residue from icy sidewalks can quickly turn the interior of your car into a gritty mess, not to mention the hassle of battling freezing temperatures just to give your vehicle a spruce-up. It's no wonder we sometimes slack off on our cleaning duties during those bone-chilling months. Who wants to wield a vacuum when it's a teeth-chattering -10 outside?

*No, we aren’t recommending kicking those shoes off to avoid salt build-up.

The exterior of a vehicle can really have it rough through the winter with the snow, ice, freezing temps, and deicers on the roads.   While it is very convenient to drive through a car wash, that may not be the best option for a really dirty car.  Those car wash brushes can scratch your beloved vehicle.  We’re not saying don’t use that drive-through car wash, we are only saying beware of the damage they can cause.  We are detailers, of course we think a hand wash is the best option!

The Nebraska summers can be just as harsh as those winter temps.  You wear sunblock when you go out, shouldn’t your car have some UV protection too?  A good coat of wax helps with UV protection as well as protecting that clear coat from the grime in the winter.

In the warmer months, we are more likely to go to the beach, drive the small humans to sports-ball practice and games, help a friend move.  All of these things can leave your car needing a little extra attention.  So, how often should you schedule a date with your car detailer? Ideally, a thorough detailing session every three to four months should suffice for most folks. However, if your car sees more action then, you might want to consider bumping up the frequency to every month or two.

Ultimately, the decision boils down to your personal preferences and priorities. Whether you're a stickler for spotlessness or more laid-back about the occasional coffee spill, finding the right balance between cleanliness and convenience is key. After all, a well-maintained car not only looks better but also holds its value better in the long run. So, the next time you find yourself pondering the question of car detailing frequency, just remember: a little TLC goes a long way in keeping your vehicle in “like new” shape.
